Para titular de su nuevo disco, el malo del Bronx Willie Colón ha usado el grito de batalla que el gran Héctor LaVoe proclamaba en el tema Barrunto: "Y Vuelve Otra Vez."
Willie porfía con la salsa agresiva y melódica, de contenidos cotidianos, humanos, latinoamericanos, pero de variedad musical. Así lo confirman los temas Me Pegue en la lotería, Cayo Condón, Candidato de la ingenuidad, Parada 22, que aguadan ansiosos ser difundidos.
Cabe recordar que el primer tema que grabo Colón como; sonero fue el despechado Guaracha, del disco El bueno, el malo, el feo de 1975, donde debutó Rubén Blades a su lado. En lo musical, debutó con el formato de filarmónica en Solo, donde vino el instrumental Chinacubana, canto Juancito, Sin poderte hablar y reactualizo el bolero Mentiras tuyas. Paso al sonido de charanga moderna (por ejemplo los discos Tiempo pa' matar, Fantasmas y Criollo) y luego a otro de inclinaciones electrónicas (Especial No 5 y Top Secrets, que trajo Simón, El gran varón). En los últimos tiempos, ha vuelto a la sonoridad acústica, teniendo como base al instrumento que lo identifica: el trombón.
Pero antes de animarse cantar solo, el Malo del Bronx ya estaba considerado como uno de los mejores coristas de salsa y acaso la mejor segunda voz. Quien haya escuchado Buscando Guayaba y Te Están Buscando con Rubén Blades, fácil llegaría esta conclusión.
En el 93, su producción Hecho en Puerto Rico (que trajo el hiriente son montuno Cueste lo que cueste y la exitosa y reactualizada salsa en Idilio) estuvo nominada al Grammy. De hecho le sobraban méritos para obtener el galardón de la Academia de las Ciencias de las Artes de la Grabación de Estados Unidos. pero al final pesó mas el nombre de 'Gloria Estefan para el publico gringo.
Y vuelve otra vez, trae el tema No me fío (Huellas del pasado), donde aparece Ángel "Cucco" Peña (el mismo de la segunda voz en Idilio). Ademas, fiel a sus raíces incursiona en la música típica de Puerto Rico en el tema Borinquen Parada 22, donde figura la guitarra-cuatro de Pedro Guzmán.
Entre los invitados está el bajista Bobby Valentín (de, las Estrellas d Fania) y en los coros un plantel destacado: Darvel García del Conjunto Canayón, Chegui Ramos de Batacumbele, el joven cantante Wichie Camacho y el extraordinario sonero Tito Allen, aquel que cantaba Feliz y dichoso.
Productor, compositor, trombonista y arreglista, Willie Colón sigue vigente a 30 años de su aparición en la salsa. Como sonero de voz nasal y grave, se ha dado el lujo de pegar varios éxitos: Corazón guerrero (basado en la melodía de Mark Knopfler de Dire Straits), Oh que sera, Gitana y Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblón. Se trata de una voz inimitable, única.
Y vuelve otra vez es una producción de audiencia indispensable, como una vacuna contra la salsa apática. monga y de escasos méritos musicales que gobierna las radioemisoras, pero no nuestros corazones. !Guapea Willie Colón!
For the title of his record, el malo del Bronx, Willie Colón used the battle cry that the late great Héctor LaVoe proclaimed in that standard Barrunto: "Y Vuelve Otra Vez." (One More Time!)
Willie challenges us again with aggressive, melodic salsa, with everyday themes, humanistic, latino- americano, but with musical variety. This is confirmed by cuts like Me Pegue en la lotería, Cayo Condón, Candidato de la ingenuidad, Parada 22, that anxiously wait to be listened to.
We must remember that the first song that Colón recorded as a singer was the torch song Guaracha, from the Good Bad Ugly album in 1975, where Rubén Blades debuted at his side. Musically, he debuted in a symphonic format on the Solo album, where the instrumental Chinacubana appeared, he sang Juancito, Sin poderte and revived the bolero Mentiras tuyas. He went on to the modern charanga sound (i.e. Tiempo pa' matar, Fantasmas and Criollo albums) and later on to other electronic inclinations (Especial No 5 y Top Secrets, that brought us Simón, El gran varón).
As of late, he has returned to an acoustic approach, using his trademark as a base: the trombone.
But before he decided to sing as a soloist, el Malo del Bronx was already considered one of the best background singers in salsa and perhaps also the best second voice. Those who have heard him on Buscando Guayaba and Te Están Buscando with Rubén Blades, easily come to this conclusion.

Actually its merits more than justified winning the Academy of Recording Arts & Science's coveted award. But in the end, the name Gloria Estefan carried more weight with the American public.
Y vuelve otra vez, contains the song No me fío (Huellas del pasado), where Ángel "Cucco" Peña accompanies him (the same second voice from Idilio). Furthermore, loyal to his roots he incursions into typical Puerto Rican music on Borinquen Parada 22, where he features Pedro Guzmán on the cuatro guitar.
The invited guests are bassist Bobby Valentín (of the Fania Allstars) and on the coros a formidable crew of distinguished talent: Darvel García of Conjunto Canayón, Chegui Ramos of Batacumbele, the young singer Wichie Camacho and the extraordinary sonero Tito Allen, known for his hit Feliz y dichoso.
Producer, composer, trombonist and arranger, Willie Colón is still a force to reckon with 30 year since his appearance on the salsa scene. As a sonero of nasal, baritoned voice, he's had the luxury of many hits : Corazón guerrero (based on Dire Straights, Mark Knopfler's Sultans of Swing), Oh que sera, Gitana and Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblón. It's about a unique, inimitable voice. Y vuelve otra vez is a "must have", as a vaccination against the apathetic salsa (flacid and wanting of musical value) that governs our airwaves, but not our hearts. !Guapea Willie Colón!
